Celebrating Excellence: CoELIB Triumphs at the Nakuru ASK Show

As part of Egerton University’s mandate, CoELIB attended the recent Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show held from Wednesday 3rd to Sunday 7th July, 2024 in Nakuru County.

The show was an exciting display of the best of Kenya's farming achievements and innovations, where the CoELIB  stood out by winning first place in three categories, i.e., Interbreed Goat, Crossbreed, and Saanen Champion.

A total of seventeen goats participated in various categories, with three emerging as winners, each taking home a medal.

CoELIB's Saanen goats were awarded for their exceptional milk production. In the crossbreed category, the CoELIB's innovative approach to combining the best traits of various breeds was recognised. The project's crossbred livestock demonstrated exceptional qualities, including resilience, higher milk production, and adaptability to different environmental conditions.

CoELIB is setting new industry standards in agricultural productivity for the benefit of farmers while contributing to the overall growth of Kenya's agricultural sector. The project's participation in the show reflects our broader mission of strengthening the livestock value chain by disseminating the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to improve output and outcomes.

"Our success at the ASK acknowledges our commitment to driving the development and dissemination of livestock improved genetics and broader genetic improvement solutions in Africa. We are continually motivated by the potential of livestock innovations as solutions to food insecurity in Africa." — Prof. Kahi, Director, CoELIB Project.

About the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK): The ASK started in 1901 as a platform for farmers to show their crops and animals and learn new farming methods, technologies, and ideas. The ASK has since grown into annual events across counties in Kenya featuring model farming approaches and creating platforms for learning, networking, and business connections among and beyond farmers, scientists, and agricultural groups.

Our mission is to empower businesses, entrepreneurs, and communities by providing them with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support to succeed in an ever-changing economic landscape.
