On 12th June 2020, Mr. Sagwa Caleb, an MSc student of Animal Breeding & Genomics - Faculty of Agriculture (FOA)

was the first to defend his thesis online. This is the first defense of its kind that comes at a time when COVID-19 has been seen as a hurdle to the continuity of education.

Sponsored by the Centre of Excellence for Livestock Innovation and Business (CoELIB) Mr. Sagwa defended his thesis on “Optimizing Breeding Dairy Cattle Systems Incorporating Reproductive Technologies (Multiple Ovulation & Embryo Transfer & Artificial Insemination), Protein Yield and Mastitis Resistance” – a thesis that seeks to offer an alternative breeding goal that incorporates milk quality traits and reproductive technologies.

The thesis was presented before a team consisting of the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture (FOA) – Prof. Abdul Faraj, associate dean, the internal examiner, supervisors and representatives of the university senate, FOA and Directorate of Quality Assurance with the DVC (AA) Prof. Alexander K. Kahi auditing the defense session.
“It is the way to go,” says Mr. Sagwa optimistically.
