CoELIB Empower: Creating, Sustaining, and Retaining a Viable Workforce for Improved Job Performance

As the work environment changes to fit in the context of 21st century, employers are also shifting focus to a more talent-based workforce. The workplace is more demanding of competency skills and capacities for the delivery of context-specific tasks. It also requires that the current and future workforce acquire the necessary complementary skills to fit in the work place.

Thanks to digitization and availability of skills resources, a growth of the creative ecosystem, and talent diversification, the youth are at an advantage to grab the technical and creative opportunities that exist in the work environment.

CoELIB Empower seeks to develop a youth employment ecosystem endowed with opportunities for education and skills training leading to sustainable jobs while meeting the workforce needs. It expands job training and workforce activities and promotes a demand-driven approach to skills development through partnerships between youth employment ecosystem players and training institutions and subsequently support youth into sustainable employment.

The continuous and organic engagement with business leaders and the employment ecosystem ensures that CoELIB continues to sharpen the requisite skills needed to succeed in wage and self-employment. CoELIB also organizes Learning Routes - convenings that bring together employers to share about the skills needs and the available opportunities for employment post-training. This strategically places CoELIB as a unit with the capacity to deliver market-relevant training and sustainably create employment while improving the employability of youths.

Through the workforce programme, apprentices and students at graduate, under-graduate and Technical, Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) level continuously gain opportunities to master competencies in their trades and talents of interest. It also caters to the needs of employers by working with them to improve the competencies of staff in unique areas of specialization to fit the dynamic and demanding work environment.

The workforce programme onboards trainees seeking credit and hands-on training in CoELIB’s key domains. Such include media (radio and TV production, content creation, editing, photography and videography), tech (AI, IoT, IT, UI/UX, information science), dairy (production and livestock management), horticulture, leadership, and agribusiness. CoELIB also supports graduate research through critical infrastructure and facilities (including laboratories and agricultural research implements and equipment). Trainees also gain hands-on skilling in project and data management thanks to CoELIB’s experience implementing cross-country programs.

CoELIB provides complementary resources to support continuous and self-paced learning through CoELIB E-School. The robust and expanding e-learning resource offers online courses in enterprise development, media, leadership, agriculture & food security and coding. The platform onboards a seasoned team of educators who journey with trainees to deliver quality content.
CoELIB Empower understands the need for holistic career growth. It layers technical skills with entrepreneurship, where trainees gain insights on business growth and development market stratification and penetration product diversification, resource mobilization, etc. In addition to soft skills training, the trainees also receive capacitation on leadership and organizational management to improve their leadership competencies.
