Between MONDAY, 3rd and 11th May 2021, CoELIB Centre hosted a delegation of academics from the University of Juba, Nuffic, and MDF Training and Consultancy
for a 9-day exposure visit that encompassed training workshops and field visit. The program that was facilitated through the “NUFFIC OKP NEW HORIZONS FOR FOOD SECURITY AND AGRI-EDUCATION IN SOUTH SUDAN” seeks to continue strengthening food security in South Sudan through capacity building of academics in areas of curriculum development and TAILOR-MADE RESEARCH.
Among the areas discussed in these workshop sessions include:

- Sampling: sample determination & sampling techniques

The exposure visit was concluded by visit to several farms within Nakuru County where the academics had first hand farming experiences and lessons to take back home to aid in the implementation of the outcomes of the workshops. Some of the sites visited include the Tatton Agricultural Park – Egerton University (hosts CoELIB Centre), Naivas Foodmarket, Plotus – Njoro National Polytrchnic. Njeri’s Horticultural Farm, and Mwangaza Practical Dairy Training Centre (PDTC).
During his address to the team of experts, CoELIB Centre’s Director Prof. Alexander K. Kahi underscored the importance of networking between Egerton University and Juba University academics in forging academic and research partnerships. This can be exploited due to the regional integration existing between countries within EAC.
CoELIB Centre in partnership with NUFFIC OKP shall continue to disseminate resources and information that shall build on existing capacity in areas of agriculture for the sustainable improvement of the food security of Africa.
